The weather has had its ups and downs since, but it refused to cooperate Monday, leading to the rescheduling.
Here are the updates on weather in The Bronx ahead of Monday night’s game:
Yankees vs. Guardians weather updates
(All times Eastern)
9:38 p.m. – The game will be played at 4:07 Tuesday.
9:36 p.m. – The game is officially postponed.
9:25 p.m. – Looks like a bit of a false start in the Yankee dugout. Yankees staff is probably bored.
9:07 p.m. – Both sides meeting again to discuss the forecast. The tarp is still on.
8:45 p.m. – Looking like another half hour to hour of rain, but it looks like we’re nearly coming out of it. If nothing else, there’s light at the end of the proverbial tunnel.
8:15 p.m. – Lauren Shehadi reports on TBS MLB officials are hoping to start the game in a few hours, and they’re optimistic it can be played tonight. Once the rain stops, it will be 40 to 45 minutes to get pitchers situated.
7:35 p.m. – Buckle up folks. We might be in this one for the long haul. Officials to reconvene at 7:45, but it could be a few hours of heavy rain.
7:30 p.m. – The rain has begun.
6:57 p.m.: For those curious about the inner workings of deciding upon a delay:
6:24 p.m.: Game 5 will officially begin under a delay, per the Yankees Twitter account. Things will be reevaluated at 7 p.m. after both sides met at 6 p.m. to discuss option.
4:15 p.m.: It appears MLB officials already are pondering contingency plans that could delay Game 5 until Tuesday … not ideal, as the winner would have to open the ALCS in Houston on Wednesday.
4:10 p.m.: Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters there is a Zoom call at about 4:45 p.m. to discuss the weather situation but acknowledged what he has heard already is “not great.”
He added that he would prefer to wait until as late as 9:30 p.m. or so to start the game as opposed to starting earlier and having to stop in the middle.
3:40 p.m.: The forecast for tonight may be dicey, but conditions in the Bronx this afternoon appear to be ideal, as MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch notes.
12:40 p.m.: Although there may be a slight delay, it seems the rain front approaching isn’t too strong. That should keep the game from being postponed, ideally.
12:30 p.m.: Per weather.com, there’s a 90 percent chance of rainfall in The Bronx tonight.
12:20 p.m.: Yellow alert reported in parts of NYC, with more rain expected around the area in the coming
12:00 p.m.: Seems likely that the start time for Monday’s game will be affected due to showers expected to hit the New York area around 7 p.m. ET.
