The team announced Tuesday that it will retire the former shortstop’s No. 2 and unveil his plaque in Monument Park on May 14 against the Houston Astros.
Jeter, who played his final season in 2014 after a 20-year career in New York, will become the 22nd player in franchise history to have his number retired. With the former captain’s No. 2 retired, all single-digit numbers will be retired by the Yankees.

During his remarkable career, Jeter recorded a franchise-record 3,465 hits, which also ranks sixth all time in MLB history, 1,311 RBIs and 260 home runs. He also made 14 All-Star teams and won five World Series championships.
