It should tell you something about how much the rest of the league respected and revered Gwynn that the Yankees, an organization he had very little interaction with, took out a full page ad in the San Diego Union-Tribune, honoring and thanking the recently deceased Hall of Famer for his contributions to the game.

As good as Gwynn was at the plate, he was even better off the field, and the overwhelming support and respect shown by is former colleagues, friends and fans are proof of that.
