The Yankees scored five runs in each of the first two innings en route to an 11-1 win at the Los Angeles Angels.
Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka (4-2) allowed one run on two hits and struck out nine in six innings to get the win.
Aaron Judge and Miguel Andujar each had three hits, and Aaron Hicks drove in three runs as the Yankees’ bats continue to sizzle.
Angels DH Albert Pujols was hitless in four at-bats and remains five hits shy of 3,000.
Angels early-season sensation Shohei Ohtani (left ankle sprain) was not in the lineup and is day to day.
RED-HOT DIAMONDBACKS
With their 4-3 win in 10 innings on Saturday in Washington, the D-backs clinched their ninth straight series to start the season, something that has not been done since 1907 by the Cubs, who went on to win 107 games and the World Series. Arizona need another 88 wins to reach 107, but for now the D-backs are tied with the Red Sox for the best record in baseball at 19-7. Arizona scored the winning run on a bases-loaded walk to A.J. Pollock.
AWFUL A’S
Three teams were shut out and one of them, the Brewers, came up with only two hits, one fewer than the A’s in their 11-0 loss to the Astros. But the Astros’ Lance McCullers Jr. mowed down the first 15 A’s, which means he took a perfect game into the sixth inning.
HERRERA MAGIC
A catch by Odubel Herrera was anything but bush league.
