During that same period, many of Nagoshi’s 40,000-plus followers have commented on his pictures to let him know how cute his cats are or how much they love his games. Now though, an ever-increasing number are replying with cat pictures of their very own, and, despite his busy schedule, the Yakuza creator is taking the time to reply to every single one of them, often sharing his opinions on the cute little kitties in the process.

Although many of his responses are limited to just cat emojis or the words “cute” or “great,” Nagoshi occasionally goes into a bit more detail, focusing on a specific characteristic or feature of the cats that he’s being shown. It’s all incredibly wholesome, particularly when one remembers that Nagoshi doesn’t speak very much English and so is presumably having to go out of his way to translate some of his thoughts.
As well as rating cats, Nagoshi has also been taking the time to share a few of his opinions on the Yakuza series, such as his favorite antagonist being Akira Nishikiyama from Yakuza 0. The main focus of his Twitter account is definitely cats though and will likely remain that way until the influential game developer is ready to reveal more information about his new studio’s Tarantino-inspired game.
After more than three decades with the company, Nagoshi left Sega in late 2021, and, with the backing of Chinese powerhouse NetEase, set up Nagoshi Studio a few months later. Since then, he’s remained fairly tight-lipped about what fans can expect from his studio’s debut title besides confirming that it will once again contain violence. Many are predicting another Yakuza-like experience, but given the creator’s impressive back catalog of games, anything is possible.
Prior to Yakuza and the formation of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, Nagoshi worked at Sega’s famed AM2 division alongside Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki. There, he produced a wide variety of critically acclaimed titles, including Daytona USA, Super Monkey Ball, and F-Zero GX. Given his stellar track record and the resources now at his disposal, only a fool would bet against Nagoshi delivering yet another home run.
