The Redbirds lean heavily on their All-Star catcher (82 starts in 92 games this season), and he’s an unquestioned team leader, so any extended absence will produce a big void. Tony Cruz, Molina’s backup, would step into the everyday lineup.
Molina has been hitting better recently following a long slump. He produced a .333/.419/.370 slash line in eight July games prior to Wednesday.
