Fans of XCOM 2 have been expecting an announcement from the studio behind the Long War modification, Pavonis Interactive, which previously held the appropriate moniker of Long War Studios. The official XCOM 2 website says that more news will be coming in the next few weeks, so those eager to return to their seat on the Avenger to experience the new Long War content won’t have much longer to wait.

Of course, this isn’t the first content for XCOM 2 that has come from the Long War creators: the team has released different packs before on the Steam Workshop, a platform which has brought everything from puppy guns to stormtroopers to the strategic sequel. Pavonis Interactive actually worked hand-in-hand with Firaxis so that it would have modifications ready upon the game’s launch, so it’s likely that the studio was preparing for Long War 2 from the very beginning.

We expect the Long War 2 modification to add a variety of character classes, new procedural generated maps, and drastically increase the amount of time it takes for gamers to complete the title. Given how XCOM 2 introduced ‘boss fights’ to the series, anyone who installs Long War 2 should brace themselves for journey with many bumps along the way - but that’s XCOM, baby!

Unfortunately for console gamers, it’s more than likely that this update will be a PC exclusive endeavor. After a delayed console release, Firaxis eventually brought over PC-based controller support for the title a few months ago, but it’s only titles like Fallout 4 and Skyrim which will support modifications on consoles in the meantime.

There’s also no indication on whether Long War 2 will cause compatibility issues with other modifications, but one thing is certain: the XCOM community seems more than ready for Long War 2. At the very least, it will tide over fans expecting a Terror From The Deep expansion.
