Harvard Magazine notoriously wrote a recent piece against homeschooling as a valid school choice option. And even more recently, Dr. Michael Rebell, executive director of the ironically named Center for Education Equity, baselessly worried that homeschooling wouldn’t provide a foundation in civics. In an interview with John Stossel, Dr. Rebell said, “There is no guarantee that kids are learning democratic values [and] learning civic knowledge.” He further stated that civics is a part of a standard public school curriculum....

While a Q4 2013 release date had been previously rumored, Take-Two Interactive has officially announced that they’ll be bumping the XCOM title out of 2012 and into fiscal year 2014 - meaning it could release anywhere between April 1, 2013 and March 31, 2014 (though our money is on later rather than sooner). It’s been a long and challenging road for the XCOM reimagining - with die-hard X-Com fans decrying the project from the outset....

Not to be outdone, IHS has now gotten their hands on Microsoft’s Xbox One, which released this past Friday in North America and several other territories, and provided a detail breakdown of that console. And like Sony is with the PS4, it’s safe to reason Microsoft is taking a loss on their console as well. According to IHS, the Xbox One likely costs Microsoft about $471 to manufacture, just $28 less than the console’s retail price....

On Xbox One, there is a new reputation system in place to both combat and deter the sort of behavior that can spoil the online gaming experience and Microsoft has now gone to the liberty of explaining it. According to the creators of the green and black game box, the Xbox One reputation system will rank players into several tiers. In familiar traffic-light like colors of green, orange and red, the worst of the worst will find themselves branded with the latter, while those who play nice get the green light to go ahead and enjoy themselves....

In a follow-up Tweet, Phil Spencer provided a recap of his Japan trip, saying that the executive continued to discuss topics like the Xbox Series X, Game Pass, and Project XCloud. While no specific publishers or studios were mentioned by name, Spencer also made sure to confirm that he did get hands on time with various games, both unannounced and previously revealed to the public. The Medium is now available for pre-order on Steam for PC and on the Microsoft Store for Xbox Series X. The game, which is an Xbox Series X launch exclusive, will be available on the console at launch though players can pre-order it now to get it on release day. On Monday Mike Spencer, Microsoft’s head of investor relations, told The New York Times that the supply of both consoles was expected to be limited at least through June and July. The good news is that the Series S is back in stock and available from these sellers with prices starting at $539.99. However, the launch of these consoles is going to be rather interesting, in that the new Xbox won’t have any exclusive games. Right now, xCloud (or Cloud Gaming With Xbox Game Pass, as Microsoft officially calls it) is currently limited to Android devices. There are also plans to bring it to iOS devices by 2021, but Microsoft isn’t planning on stopping there. Earlier this month, Xbox chief Phil Spencer confirmed that the company is looking into bringing xCloud to PC and consoles at some point down the line.
