There’s now word that the slim version of the Xbox One scheduled for release this year will retail for just $299. That puts it on even footing with the standard version of the system that’s currently available from retailers, as of a permanent price cut that went into action earlier in the spring. Obviously, new hardware would typically be released at a higher price point than the products currently on the market, so the revised Xbox One is bucking a trend in that respect....

The NPD Group’s Mat Piscatella shared the company’s findings on consumer spend in the video games sector today in a Twitter thread. The data covers a few different ranges, showing figures for the month of June, for the first half of 2021, and for the last 12 months in totality. Broadly, though, the news is good for the gaming industry: according to Piscatella, consumer spending across all areas increased 5% in June 2021 compared to June 2020, and 15% for the first half of 2021 compared to the same period last year....

It seems that 30 new Steam Achievements have been added for Enemy Unknown, implying that whatever Firaxis is up to will not be a brand new sequel to the XCOM reboot, but an expansion. These details are far from official, but given the track record of Steam Achievements outing major releases, we’d expect comment from the developers soon. While fans and onlookers may have fully expected the critical and commercial success of Enemy Unknown to warrant a complete sequel (read our review for proof), this bit of news requires some context....

Microsoft is discounting the Xbox One as part of a spring sale promotional event, which will also see a number of digital PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 backward compatible games receive significant discounts. Microsoft hasn’t announced all the games that will be on sale, but it did mention that some of 2015’s biggest releases, like Fallout 4 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, will be a part of the promotion....

The Xbox One S lives up to its implied name, coming in 40% smaller than its bulky predecessor. The console still keeps the same design structure of the standard Xbox One however, seeming to be an exact copy of the big box but much smaller. The Xbox One S will also be entirely white, which may please Apple aficionados and Wii/Wii U owners, but otherwise meshes poorly with Xbox One and PlayStation 4 set-ups....
